Past Experience

Before returning to graduate school to obtain a master's degree in chemistry, Isern worked as a registered dietitian at Oswego Hospital in Oswego, N.Y. She also worked as an analytical chemist for Continental Oil Co.

Education

In 1974, Isern received her B.A. in Biology from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1987, she earned an M.S. in Human Nutrition from the University of Missouri-Columbia with thesis work describing the influence of dietary cholesterol on serum insulin levels as quantitated by radioimmunoassay. In 1996, she received her master's degree in Bioinorganic Chemistry at Syracuse University. Her thesis work centered on characterization of photolytically active vanadate solutions using NMR spectroscopy.
